    L&D Programme Diagnostic

A free 15-point diagnostic to assess whether a learning and development programme has the structural conditions for genuine behaviour change.

Review the conditions in your programme and identify where its design needs attention.

    How this interactive tool works

This page provides the documented overview before the interactive experience is loaded. It lets you read the purpose, the material covered and the way the result is presented without entering answers or sending a request. When you choose to continue, the interactive version uses the same material shown here. It then presents the route's existing prompts, controls and completion behaviour.

The interactive experience remains responsible for its own input, score and lead-capture step. Where the route requests a first name and work email, its existing form handles validation and submission. This overview does not replace those steps or submit a lead.

    What you will work through

These are the sections and prompts already used by this route. They describe the scope of the interactive experience and the information it asks you to consider before it creates a result, printable card or saved browser document.

    Design

The diagnostic checks whether the programme starts from a performance needs analysis, expresses objectives as observable behaviour or performance outcomes, uses spaced practice and retrieval, connects content to real work, and defines success and measurement.

    • The programme is based on a genuine performance needs analysis
    • Learning objectives describe observable behaviours or performance outcomes
    • Spaced practice and retrieval are designed in rather than a single learning event
    • Content connects directly to participants' real work challenges
    • Participants know what success looks like and how progress will be measured

    Facilitation

It checks the fit between facilitators and audience, and whether participants can practise, fail and receive feedback in a psychologically safe learning environment.

    • Facilitators have audience credibility as well as content expertise
    • The programme creates psychological safety for practice, failure and feedback

    Manager involvement

The questions cover manager briefing, opportunities for workplace practice and visible senior sponsorship of the behaviours being developed.

    • Line managers are briefed before the programme
    • Managers create opportunities to practise skills at work
    • A senior sponsor visibly role-models the behaviours

    Measurement and sustainability

The remaining checks cover behaviour-change measurement, a comparison baseline, investment framing, post-programme reinforcement and a feedback loop into the design team.

    • There is a plan to measure behaviour change
    • There is a clear baseline for comparison
    • The budget is aligned to expected impact
    • There is a plan to embed, practise and reinforce learning
    • Experience and performance data feed back into design

What happens after you complete it

Once all 15 conditions have an answer, the existing first-name and work-email form unlocks the result. The tool then calculates the percentage of conditions met and shows the score by category. Its result bands are Strong Programme Design, Solid with Development Areas, Significant Gaps and High Risk. Every condition answered no is shown with its existing priority action.
